With warm climes and humidity, water parks offer a great way to cool down or provide a break away from the amazing parks and other things to do in Orlando with kids. Luckily they are plenty to choose from! Read on for our guide to the best water parks in Orlando for families, which includes opening hours, rides, other attractions, and ‘Know Before You Go’ tips!
Plan ahead
Florida has plenty of lightning and storms and if lightning is within a certain radius, the water parks will temporarily stop anyone from entering the water until it has passed, unless they can tell on the radar that it will last all day. Most thunderstorms happen in the afternoon around 2pm-4pm and are generally short lived but with heavy rain and can often be accompanied by rumbles of thunder and lightning. If you are wanting you know what the procedures are eg whether you need to get out of the water, leave the park or seek shelter read on.
Waterpark procedures during thunderstorms.
- If there is no lightning nearby, you can still swim in the pools even if it’s raining.
- If you do need to seek shelter, it’s a good idea to prearrange a meeting place beforehand with all members of your group.
- The good news is, when it rains heavily or if people need to temporarily get out of the water, a lot of people leave, meaning when it ‘re-opens’ the queues are a lot shorter and the water parks a lot emptier.
- If you need to seek shelter, look for an indoor restaurant or gift shop or seek advice from staff.
- Generally, if inclement weather conditions persist and the waterparks close with attractions open for less than 4 hours, you could be issued with a rain check.
