Campgrounds Near Disney World: Fort Wilderness Resort by Disney

If you’re looking for a place to stay that offers an authentic campground experience without compromising on comfort, look no further than Fort Wilderness Resort by Disney. Yes, you heard that right!

Disney also offers an RV and camping ground experience for those who want to get in touch with nature, apart from the more well-known luxurious hotel accommodations that offer immersive themes and extravagant facilities.

Open to guests since 1971, this massive, gated 750-acre camping area is enveloped by pine and cypress forests to make you feel like you’ve escaped the hustle and bustle of the city.

You have the option to choose from the 799 campsites and 409 fully furnished wilderness cabins. Talk about being spoilt for choice! Located just 8-10 minutes from Walt Disney World Resort, this pet-friendly RV resort is not a stranger to wildlife.

Think peacocks, armadillos, rabbits, deer, ducks, and more! It even provides bike rentals and golf carts to allow guests to move around the vast property and feel what life in the woods is like! 

Campsites or Cabins?

At Fort Wilderness Resort by Disney, you can stay at the campsites or the cabins. There are 5 types of campsites available that are categorized by size and amenities. Each of them allows a maximum of 10 guests, and the shrubbery and landscaping ensure maximum privacy. 

The “Tent or Pop-Up” Campsites (10 x 25 Feet) accommodate a camper-van or a pop-up camper and up to 2 tents but don’t have sewage hookups. The Full Hook-up Campsites (10 x 50 Feet) accommodate an RV and a tent and also come with sewage hookups.

The smaller “Preferred” Campsites (10 x 45 Feet) have everything we mentioned in the full hook-up campsites but also come with the added benefit of being‌ near the marina. If you have a larger RV, The Premium Campsites (18 x 60 Feet) are the way to go.

The Premium Meadow Campsites offer the same size and amenities as the Premium campsites but are also located close to the meadow recreation area, campfire, and a bike barn, giving you better accessibility. 

Although a little heavy on the pocket when compared to the other camping grounds on this list, you can rest assured that staying here comes with the comforts and pampering that Disney is so well-known for. The top-notch amenities at Fort Wilderness will make you want to stay, not only for all the basics like laundry, eateries, and free Wi-Fi but also for the various exciting activities.

Apart from adventurous trails, playgrounds, and 2 heated pools, it offers a treasure trove of activities, including but not limited to horseback/pony-back riding, archery, tennis, and the Davy Crockett arcade, making it the perfect place if you are traveling with kids. 

It also offers babysitting that is made available in-room and on campsites. As long as you have an RV with a functioning bathroom, you’re good to go. Enjoy a date night while the kids are being entertained with games, arts and crafts, outdoor playtime, and more! 

Campgrounds Near Disney World: Tropical Palms RV Resort

Open all year round, this 69-acre RV park is located just 4 miles or 7-10 minutes away from Walt Disney World Resort. Apart from the 343 RV site rentals equipped with electric, water, and cable TV, it also houses spacious and furnished vacation cottages. Paid Wi-Fi is also available throughout the property.

From 1 to 3 bedrooms, or a loft-style cabin, each cottage at the Topical Palms comes with a private deck and a full-fledged kitchen with a microwave, coffeemaker, and utensils. A pull-out sleeper sofa, soft linens, and a flat-screen TV will make your stay comfortable and hassle-free.

Six types of RV sites, ranging from Value, Standard, Premium, and Elite are at your disposal. They are categorized according to grass, gravel, or pavement sites. While all sites have a picnic table, some also include a concrete patio. 

Aside from the excellent location itself, it’s the fantastic on-site amenities at this RV park that really set it apart. These include a heated pool and hot tub, a playground, a game room, an air-conditioned clubhouse, and even a dog park!

The resort includes a restaurant, laundry service, store, library, and fitness center. Mini Golf, Shuffleboard, Bocce Ball, Volleyball, and Fishing are other activities available. It’s also known for hosting the occasional live music event as well as bonfires with s’mores and hotdogs.

If you visit during the summer months, you’ll have a couple of movie screenings to look forward to as well! It truly is a complete family experience.

Sherwood Forest RV Resort

Surrounded by lush-green foliage of towering treetops, pristine lakes, and rustic landscaping, the Sherwood Forest Resort is one of the most sought-after RV parks near Disney World. Located just 4 miles away, it takes no more than 12 minutes to drive to Disney world, even with traffic. 

Ideal for families and large groups, this RV resort hosts several activities like concerts, dance lessons, cookouts, arts and crafts, board games, bingo, and much more. It even has special holiday-themed events around Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course, Christmas! The pet-friendly RV park also provides cable TV access and a picnic table for each campsite.

RV sites with full hookups begin at $72 per night, standard sites at $56 per night, and elite pull-through sites at $91. But keep in mind that a 3-day minimum stay is required when making a reservation and that rates may vary depending on the season and are subject to availability.

Kissimmee RV Park

If you’re looking for RV parks near Disney World that are both close to all the action and have a lot to offer in terms of amenities, then Kissimmee RV Park is the perfect place. This RV park is located just 6.5 miles from Disney World. But that’s not all!

It is also located close in proximity to Sea World, Harry Potter Wizarding World at Universal Orlando Resort, and Discovery Cove, among others. Formerly known as the Orange Grove Campground and RV Park, this pet-friendly complex offers short-term and long-term site rentals.

Whether you have recreational vehicles, motor homes, campers, or tents, Kissimmee RV Park is sure to meet all your camping requirements. Each full-service campsite comes with a concrete patio and a picnic table.

Furthermore, restrooms, shower facilities, Wi-Fi, and a heated pool are all available on-site. The park also houses a recreational hall with a kitchen, horseshoe pits, and shuffleboard courts to keep the kids entertained. 

A basic tent site starts at $42.95, and a Deluxe site with electric, water, and sewer service starts at $54. For a long-term basic site, the monthly rate starts at $495 in the off-season and rises to $745 during peak season. There’s a 10% military and early bird discount offered, so make sure to enquire about those!

Campgrounds Near Disney World: Rainbow Chase RV Resort

Less is more at Rainbow Chase RV Resort, a clean and well-maintained campground that’s a fantastic choice if you want to enjoy the quiet while still being close to Disney World. Its central location makes it accessible to Busch Gardens, Legoland, Sea World, Universal, and other attractions in and around Orlando.  

A clubhouse, library, free Wi-Fi, restrooms, and laundry facilities will ensure a trouble-free and comfortable stay for you and your family. The park also welcomes pets under 40 pounds and houses a dog park for them to run about freely.

In addition to all of this, it also hosts some planned activities, such as bingo and board games. Horseshoe pits and shuffleboard courts are present on-site as well. 

The park offers short- and long-term stays along with RV storage facilities. While the daily rate starts at $47, it will cost you only about $285 per week. Members of nonprofits, such as AARP or Good Sam, are even eligible for further discounts. 

Bill Frederick Park

Located on 183 acres of land, the Bill Frederick Park is one of the best Campgrounds Near Disney World for nature lovers, large camping groups, and families. 

The complex includes beautiful trails for hiking, biking, bird watching, and grilling, making it an ideal alternative to staying in a hotel. The family-friendly setup also encourages events like birthday parties, family functions, luncheons, and even reunions at its 6 pavilions.

The one near the Drone Zone has even recently been installed with power. The park also boasts multiple playgrounds for your tiny ones to run around and thoroughly enjoy their time away from the hustle and bustle of city life. 

Another recent addition to the park is a dedicated drone flying zone to document a stunning bird’s-eye perspective of Orlando’s exquisite sites and attractions. An outdoor fitness area and swimming pool will help keep you and the family active on your vacation and build your stamina. Trust us, you’ll be thankful for it later when walking around the city’s Theme Parks!

Aloha RV Park

A mere 18-minute drive away from Disney World, the Aloha RV Park is a basic yet functional and economically priced campsite. The site has sewage, water, 30 and 50-amp hookups, and a few 100-amp hookups. It also has restrooms and showers, a pool, a pet area, and Wi-Fi. 

Although the campground itself doesn’t have much to offer in terms of luxurious amenities, guests are welcome to enjoy a variety of adventurous activities that are situated just a stone’s throw away from the park.

From orchard tours, hiking, horseback riding, and biking to several water sports like paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking, there’s so much to try! The RV park’s location makes it perfect for enjoying beautiful sunsets and stargazing on clear nights. And isn’t that what makes camping worth it anyway?

Aloha RV Park is also located close to some excellent restaurants, museums, and other spots that Orlando has to offer. Its proximity to other theme parks like SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Animal Kingdom makes it the ideal plug for your camper, especially if you are traveling with kids.

ThemeWorld RV Resort

The ThemeWorld RV Resort totally hits the nail on the head when it comes to budget-friendly camping sites. With no extra bells and whistles, this is one of the best no-frills campgrounds near Disney World. It offers an amazing location, great hygiene, standard yet comfortable amenities, and affordability that is sure to win you over, if nothing else. 

Located about 20 minutes from Disney World, the compound has 282 campsites offering a full hook-up with water, sewage, and electricity. A standard dog-friendly full-service site will cost you around $33 while its Deluxe counterpart will set you back around $42. The Deluxe option houses a 45-foot-long recreational vehicle. 

The resort does offer a swimming pool and an air-conditioned fitness center. It also provides light snacks and a pancake breakfast that ‌your kids will love. Apart from that, the humble camping site also organizes occasional musical events and movie nights. 

Lake Louisa State Park

One of the more affordable camping sites at $24 a night, the serene and gorgeous Lake Louisa State Park, is a no-brainer. Nestled between two beautiful lakes, Dixie and Hammond, the 4,372-acre State Park provides full hookup campsites and 20 cozy and enchanting cabins that look out over the stunningly calm Lake Dixie. 

The state park offers 60 full-facility campsites, each with 30 and 50 amp hookups, and a dump station between the Sandhill and Dixie loop within the grounds. In addition to two bathhouses and two accessible fishing piers, there is also a small pavilion on the campgrounds.

For those without an RV, the centrally heated/air-conditioned cabins for a group of 6 will be perfect for families and larger groups. A living room, a fully stocked kitchen, and two bedrooms with two bathrooms will be more than enough to ensure optimum comfort.

If you are looking for a place to get away from the fast-paced life of the city, you will find this to be a wonderful place as phones and televisions are not included in the cabins. You’ll finally get to take the time to get out, take a break from your gadgets, and bond with nature. Moreover, as long as you follow some basic rules, your furry little friends are also welcome at this pet-friendly park. 

Lake Louisa State Park has a lot to offer its visitors in terms of outdoor activities because it is located within a natural setting with 3 lakes on site. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding are just some things you can do.

Apart from that, you and your little ones are also guaranteed a great time wildlife watching, hiking on the short half-mile nature trail, horseback riding, and picnicking lakeside. 

Campgrounds Near Disney World: Thousand Trails RV Camping

With over 80 RV Parks combined throughout every state that spans the country, Thousand Trails is a brand that lives up to its name. Its 255-acre property in Orlando is cradled in the center of Orange Grove County.

Away from the busy city life, this quaint RV campground comprises a 60-acre spring-fed lake and sunny sandy beaches, and is yet only about 17-25 minutes from Disney World! The resort held the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence from 2016 to 2018. 

All the RV sites have a full hookup. Restrooms, shower facilities, and laundry services are also available on site. The grounds even have a library and a business center for those on a workcation.

The other amenities available at the resort include mini golf, shuffleboard, pickleball, fishing, and boat rentals. Your kids will enjoy splashing around in the swimming pool, the playground, and, of course, the game room. 

For groups and families without an RV, Thousand Trails offers various cottages that accommodate 4-8 guests. While the cottages are not pet-friendly, your four-legged pals are welcome in the lofts and on the campsites.

What’s more, the cabins have their own activities for kids and adults alike. From line dancing and water aerobics, to small workshops on arts and crafts to keep your tiny tots engaged, this campground has something for everyone in the family.
