Find Disney Charm in Celebration (Without the Crowds!)

Sharing is caring!

While visiting the Walt Disney World parks, you have to expect crowds—and lots of them! But there is somewhere in the Sunshine State that gives you a slice of Disney charm without the hoards of people. And that place is Celebration.

The town of Celebration—originally Disney’s Town of Celebration—is a master-planned community in Orlando that the Walt Disney World Company began developing in the early 1990s. With the goal in mind to produce a place for residents to live and work, Disney created the quaint town just a 15-minute drive from the Disney parks. And if you’re looking for something different to do while holidaying in Orlando, then I highly recommend you pay it a visit.

Find Disney Charm in Celebration (Without the Crowds!)

My family and I have been to Celebration a few times in the past. And it makes for a relaxing morning or afternoon away from the typical Disney chaos. So, whether you’re an avid Disney goer or trying to fit in as much as possible during your very first visit, then here is all you need to know about Celebration and what you can expect upon arriving.

Shop the Local Boutiques

One of the best things to do in Celebration is browse the various boutiques that call the town home. Selling everything from home decor and Disney trinkets to golf accessories and clothing, there really is something for everyone—even those who hate the idea of shopping.

Lake Rianhard

Just across the street from the Celebration town centre is Lake Rainhard—a beautiful stretch of water that offers visitors tranquillity with rocking chairs and walking trails dotted throughout its perimeter.

Take the one-mile stroll around the lake, or grab an ice cream and enjoy five minutes of peace with views of the water. The latter was definitely a hit with our girls, so we’re making it a tradition each time we visit.

Cooking Classes

If you have a few hours to spare and kids who love to get involved with cooking, then enrol them in a cooking class at U Can Cook

The all-inclusive culinary school in Celebration has classes for all different skill levels—including those for families with little ones in tow!

Horse Drawn Carriage Ride

One way to feel like Cinderella while visiting Celebration is to take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the town and Lake Rainhard.

Misty Blue Acres has been running carriage rides in Celebration for years. And if you don’t feel like walking, then there really is no better way to see all Celebration has to offer!

Dine in One of the Many Great Restaurants

There are so many great restaurants and cafes in Celebration that you’ll have trouble deciding which one to dine at. Some restaurants offer lakeside dining, while others have outdoor seating. And as there are so many options, you can expect to find a huge selection of cuisines ranging from Japanese to Cuban.

Our favourite is the diner- located just opposite the lake with indoor and outdoor seating. From waffles, to eggs, berries and so many other choices it offers a hearty meal that we have loved every time.

Woodland Walking Trails

Along with the walk around Lake Rainhard, Celebration also has other walking trails that take you through woodlands and across boardwalks. You’ll find green signs that state how long each trail is and the wildlife you can expect to see on route.

All trails are wheelchair and pram-friendly. And we found that the trees provided just the right amount of shade.

Rent Bicycles

Another way to explore Celebration is by bicycle. Celebration Bicycle Rental has bikes available on a first-come, first-served basis, giving you the freedom to experience the town and its picturesque neighbourhoods.

Sunday Farmers Market

Every Sunday, visitors to Celebration can enjoy the farmers market that takes place from 9 am to 3 pm in winter and 9 am to 2 pm in summer. Lining the streets under canopies are stalls of fresh produce, arts and crafts and unique gifts—all from small businesses that are local to the area.

Cool Down in the Celebration Splash Pads

If you’ve been to Florida before, then you’ll know how hot it can get—especially in summer. So, for that reason, one of the best things to do in Celebration is to cool down at the splash pads that are completely free to use. They are just opposite the retro cinema building.

My girls loved weaving their way through all the different streams and fountains of water. And it gave my husband and I the chance to enjoy an afternoon coffee without being disturbed—pure bliss if you ask me!

Play Golf at the Celebration Golf Club

Golf lovers will be happy to know that Celebration has its very own golf course with 18 holes to work your way around. You can book tee times on the Celebration Golf Club website for discounts and to ensure you don’t miss out.

Halloween and Christmas

The town of Celebration goes all out for Halloween and Christmas, and I really mean all out. The streets are decorated from top to bottom, and there are additional activities like ice skating and trick-or-treating.

If you’re ever in Florida during the holidays, then a visit to Celebration should be at the top of your itinerary, as the town really does look like it belongs in a movie.
