Located just a 30-minute drive northwest of downtown Orlando, Wekiva Island is easily reachable by car. Simply set your GPS to 1014 Miami Springs Drive, Longwood, FL 32779, and follow the signs to Wekiva Island. Just make sure you don’t confuse it with nearby Wekiva Springs, as they’re different private areas.
We found plenty of onsite parking during our weekday visit, but it fills up fast, especially on weekends and during peak hours.
(For a unique arrival experience, you can opt for the shuttle service offered by Wekiva Island for a small fee. Just remember to move your vehicle by closing time. If you rent a cabana for the day, you’ll have two reserved parking spots for added convenience.)
We didn’t rent a cabana, so the only shade is from the main building casting a shadow over during different parts of the day. This can be a super popular spot along the decking and sandy spot, so you may want to consider the cabana.
The cabana also has a BBQ as well as a cool box.

Please note that there are no lifeguards on duty at Wekiva Island, so parents should keep a close watch on their little ones. Diving from the boardwalk is not allowed for everyone’s safety in this natural habitat where wildlife is present.
Be cautious as always around river grass and weeds, and the water in general as they may be hiding spots for gators and snakes. We did spot one alligator during our visit!

Rent canoes, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards.
A 35-40 minute upstream paddle will take you to the picturesque Wekiwa Springs State Park, while those seeking a longer adventure can head to Rock Springs. All vessels come with safety life vests and paddles for your peace of mind.
Explore the river’s diverse wildlife, from colorful birds to playful otters, and maybe catch a glimpse of an alligator. Fishing and Boating
If you like fishing, we discovered you can’t cast a line from the dock, but if you have a fishing license you can from a boat, kayak, canoe, or even a paddleboard (for the adventurous ones!). Pack your own bait and tackle.

Outdoor Games
Wekiva Island boasts a regulation-size sand volleyball court, perfect for friendly competitions. Groups can reserve the court for their games, with bleachers available for spectators to cheer on their favorite teams. It’s all about enjoying the spirit of camaraderie and fun.
For those looking for a different kind of challenge, tossing a frisbee or engaging in a lively game of cornhole is always a hit.
Relax by the Boardwalk
The deck was the perfect place for the sunshine warming our backs, relaxing whilst a gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and the calming sound of the Wekiva River lapping at the shore.
Rows of comfy Adirondack chairs line the riverside, practically begging you to plop down with a good book or a cool drink – yes I did indulge! Towards the end of the building behind is the perfect spot for the kids to dig in the sand to give you a few moments peace. Take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water, spread out a picnic blanket for a feast under the Florida sky, or just lounge around and soak up the serenity.
Rent a Cabana
Give in to luxury by renting a cabana at Wekiva Island. Each cabana boasts a plush couch, comfortable Adirondack chairs, and two reserved parking spots, ensuring a welcoming and exclusive experience.
Renting a cabana means bring your favorite snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. You can also order delicious food and drinks directly to your cabana from the on-site bar. And to keep cool all day long, take advantage of the provided ice cooler. We loved the Tacos!

Campfire
Experience the magic of “Firepit Fridays” and select Saturday evenings at Wekiva Island. As the Florida weather cools down, families and friends come together around the fire pit for cozy evenings. It’s the ultimate setting for roasting marshmallows, swapping fireside stories, and basking in the warmth on chilly nights. Keep an ear out for themed dinners and live music.
Art Exploration at Wekiva Island
Take the family on an art adventure at Wekiva Island’s CERO gallery! This cool spot isn’t your typical museum – it’s bursting with colorful paintings, funky sculptures, and all sorts of creations from local artists and folks from around the world. It’s a guaranteed way to spark some creativity in your little ones (and maybe even you!).
Feeling like you stepped into a real-life art attack? If you visit in spring, you might catch the Wekiva Paint Out: a week-long event where a bunch of artists take over the island, painting everything in sight! They capture the beauty of the river, the springs, the whole place. Plus, the money they raise goes towards keeping this natural wonderland sparkling clean.

Overview and History of Wekiva Island
Situated along the peaceful waters of the Wekiva River, Wekiva Island has around 2000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for fun and games. But before we jump into all the cool stuff to do here, let’s take a sec to appreciate the awesome history behind this place.
Back in the 1960s, this spot was known as Wekiva Marina, just a simple fish camp. It was super popular with folks who loved fishing and being in nature. Eventually, it became a favorite hangout for locals, all thanks to its beautiful surroundings. However, tragedy struck in 1999 when a fire destroyed the iconic bar on the property.
Yet, the story didn’t end there. The Weinaug family recognized the island’s potential and embarked on its restoration. In 2008, their efforts paid off, and Wekiva Island transformed into a sustainable eco-retreat, seamlessly blending art, education, and conservation.
